Nee ik ben niet doof zoals sommigen beweren op de cluster of in email berichten. Misschien moet men de situatie aan deze kant ook even inbeelden.
De eerste dagen heb ik heel veel energie gestopt in het antenne probleem. De grootste problemen zijn weggewerkt.
Iets wat ik niet zelf in de hand heb zijn plaatselijke storingen… Ik heb QRM op alle banden met een signaalsterkte van minstens 59 tot 59 +30DB. Toch doe ik mijn uiterste best om u uit de QRM te pikken. Ik begrijp dat dit soms erg moeizaam gaat, maar we doen ons best om u in het logbook te krijgen. Deze inspanningen kosten mij veel meer moeite, dan de inspanning van iemand die simpelweg “deaf” in het DX cluster plaatst.
Deze ochtend (23.09) viel de QRM heel even mee… signaal 55. Op korte tijd kon ik heel wat stations in het logboek plaatsen, waaronder ook heel wat ON stations. Van het ene op het andere moment was de QRM weer terug. Van waar de storingen komen is momenteel een groot raadsel.

The first couple of days I put a lot of energy in solving my antenna problems.The biggest problems are now in fact solved. Something that I can’t control is the local interference. I am suffering from QRM on all bands with a minimum of S9 up to as much as s9+30dB. I am doing my absolute best to pick some callsigns out of the noise. I understand that this takes up a long time, but I’m doing my best to get you in the log. It takes a lot of effort for me to keep doing this, a lot more than someone just putting “deaf” in the DX cluster.
This morning (23/09) the QRM dropped to S5 for a short time. During this period I managed to log a lot of stations , including a lot of ON callsigns. But suddenly the QRM returned and it is a mystery to me where or what the source of QRM is.

1 September 2018: We werken volop om ons station klaar te krijgen en alle onnodige bagage te beperken, daar de bagage toch een grote kost is tijdens deze trip. Om een idee te geven: Enkel de Spiderbeam tower (10 kg) is een extra kost van 340 Euro! We proberen het radio materiaal te beperken tot 4 koffers (100 kg) + 1 koffer met persoonlijke spullen en 1 extra pak met de tower + vert. antenne.

We are preparing for departure. Overweight luguage is an extra high cost during this trip.
September 1st 2018: we are working hard to prepare our station to be ready for the Z68UR DX pedition. We are leaving all unnecessary items at home because of the high extra luguage cost. To give you an idea : only the spiderbeamtower (weights 10 kilo) is an extra 340 Euro ! We try to limit the radio gear at strict minimum and packing it in 4 cases (100 kg) + 1 extra suitcase with personal belongings + 1 extra box with the tower and the vertical antenna..

ARRL • Z68UR geldig als DXCC
29 juni 2018: Goed nieuws vanuit ARRL hoofdkantoor “American Radio Relay League” USA. Wij hadden de ARRL reeds ingelicht over onze plannen en zij waren enthousiast. We moesten hun de nodige documenten – proefstukken bezorgen ter goedkeuring als DXCC. Nog geen 24 uur later kregen wij een e-mail van Sharon Taratula (ARRL Award Manager – ARRL Radiosport Department), dat ons documenten voldoende waren voor de ARRL en Z68UR erkend zal worden als een geldige DXCC.
Ondertussen deed Tim M0URX “United Radio QSL Management Bureau – United Kingdom” het nodige werk en is ook alles in orde voor LOTW (Logbook Of The World).
ARKEP confirms callsign Z68UR
June 29th 2018: Good news from The ARRL headquarters. We informed the ARRL about our plans to visit Kosovo and they were very enthusiastic. We had to deliver them the necessary documents to get a DXCC approval. Within 24 hours we had a reply email from ARRL award manager Sharon Taratula that the documents were sufficient to get a valid DXCC approval.
In the meantime Tim, M0URX (United radio QSL management bureau- UK) made sure that LOTW was set up and working.

27 juni 2018: Vandaag de officiële licentie ontvangen van Mr. Fazli Shala van ARKEP (Autoriteti Rregullater i Komunikimeve Elektronike dhe Postare). Het was fijn om samen te werken met ARKEP, steeds een vlotte response op mijn vragen en emails. Bedankt Mr Fazli om Z68UR mee mogelijk te maken.

12 juni 2018: De exacte datum voor Z68UR is gekend. Op donderdag 20 september vlieg ik vanuit Brussel naar Wenen – Oostenrijk. Vandaar neem ik een nieuwe vlucht naar Pristina – Kosovo. Rond 12.00 uur ’s middags zal ik daar toekomen maar moet ik nog 95 minuten verder reizen naar de DX locatie. Op zondag 30 september vlieg ik terug naar Wenen – Oostenrijk en zo verder naar Brussel. Ik zal terug aankomen in België omstreeks 16u55.

June 12th 2018: The exact date for Z68UR is known. On Thursday september 20th I will fly from Brussels to Vienna – Austria. There I will have another flight to Prestina – Kosovo. I will arrive around 12.00 o’clock at noon in Prestina and it will take another 95 minutes travelling to the DX-location. On sunday september 30th I will fly back to Vienna – Austria and than back to Brussels. Around 16.55 local time I will be back in Belgium.
Extra bagage een probleem.
10 juni 2018: Het is niet de eerste keer dat we een DX peditie organiseren via het vliegtuig, toch stoten we deze keer op heel wat problemen om onze bagage mee te krijgen. Omdat ik alleen reis, mag ik plots maar max. 45 kg meenemen in 1 koffer. De maatschappij dan maar telefonisch gecontacteerd en duidelijk uitgelegd dat we extra willen betalen voor het extra gewicht. Vakantie- en sportmateriaal mag wel. Maar radio’s staan niet in die lijst. Ik stelde nog even duidelijk de vraag: als ik morgen via jullie vlieg en ik neem 100 kg aan strandballen mee, dan is dat geen probleem… maar een radio is een probleem ?

June 10th 2018: It is not the first time that we organise a DX-pedition by plane, but this time there are lots of problems to transport the luggage with us. Because I travel by myself I only can take 45 kg with me in 1 travel case. I have contacted the travel company to tell them that I am willing to pay extra for the extra weight. They said that holiday and sport equipments are okay, but radio equipment is not on the list. So I replied : so if I take a flight with your company and take for 100 kg beach balls with me it will be no problem, but a radio would be a problem ? Answer: correct !
